Overview:
Finely detailed antique Victorian era jelly ring (circa 1880s to 1900s) crafted in 14k yellow gold.
Opal cabochon measures 11.5mm x 9.5mm7mm (estimated at 4 carats). The opal shows very light wear (surface abrasions visible under a 10x loupe).
This enchanting antique ring is set with a truly mesmerizing jelly opal. Unlike traditional opaque or milky opals, jelly opals are prized for their translucent, gelatinous body that allows light to pass through, almost as if the gem is lit from within. As the stone moves, vivid flashes of electric green, fire red, fiery orange, vivid purple and flashes of turquoise dance across the surface. This jelly opal is one of the best we have come across, with a bright, vivid and dramatic color matrix. The east to west set setting highlights beautiful hand etched foliate details. The medium rise ring (8mm – 0.31 inches) sits nicely on the finger.
The ring is in good condition. We have not cleaned it in order to preserve the patina and collector value.
