Similar to cloisonné, plique-à-jour is an enameling technique in which the enamel is applied in cells. Unlike cloisonné, the style has no backing in the final product, so light can shine through the transparent or translucent enamel. In this remarkable brooch, the enameling mimics the intricate details of a dragonfly’s wings, emeralds make up its body while diamond accents make it shimmer.
